Am I critical of Greece?
Following my last post about getting factual information from the blog written by Kat, I received the following “comment”. Whoever wrote this failed to leave their name, just posted as “Anonymous”. As it did not seem relevant to that thread, I have separated it here:
“If Greece is such a backwards country according to your writings, and you find things so unorganised here, then why don't you go back to where you came from? “
I write about what happens to us since we moved to Greece, my name and email address is clearly visible to everyone. Yes, I have opinions like everyone else, and when I express some of them I try not to be upsetting or offensive to others. I would hope that others wishing to express their views through my blog would also have the guts or decency to reveal themselves. So, as a result I have now turned off the option for people to post comments anonymously; I know there ways around everything, but....
After reading the comment I looked at what had been written over last few years trying to understand why someone thought I found Greece “a backward country” and things were so “unorganised”. I hoped I hadn't described it in either way. I don't think I have, I only recorded events that had happened to show progress with our home and incidents that we found amusing.
I apologise if those events have made it sound that Greece is the way you describe it “Anonymous” and offended you. Yes of course there are bad things and good things about the country and also the people, but that's exactly the same wherever in the world you are.
We both love Greece the way it is, we don't want to change it; we have chosen to live here.

Hi again! Most people who post these kinds of criticisms and blanket judgments usually don't take the time to read a number of posts to figure out what you're about or even remember that you are simply sharing select things about your life. They forget they don't know you, and just have knee jerk reactions to whatever neuroses they've got going on. And of course they never leave a name because they're cowards.
I've been called names I've never been called before and for what? For telling the truth about my life here. That's all. No country is perfect; if it was, we'd all live there. And I help people. Where's the harm in that! My favorite part is when they tell me to go home or go back to where I came from...well, that would be Athens or my mother (who is dead). Some of these people claim to be my ally. Some of these people are from well-known newspapers, who have only stopped harassing me because I told them I traced their IP address and can easily inform their boss if they keep it up. Some of them I ban. However, this doesn't stop them.
They do a search on 'californiakat,' follow me anywhere I make a comment and then rail on me there too. It's possible this Anonymous comment was meant for me and not for you, especially since your writings have not been about disorganization or any sort of backwardness; mine aren't either, but they've been interpreted that way. I hope you understand I'm not being egotistical. This has happened on a number of occasions on several blogs I like, and I apologize if you've inadvertently been the brunt of the kind of hatred I get daily. Much of it has to do with my nationality because if the material on my site had been written by a Greek, the reaction would be nil.
I have never said Greece sucks, I have never said I hate Greece, and I have never said Greece is backwards. All I do is tell stories from my life, present research and hard stats from legitimate sources, and it is Greeks who spew those criticisms. I love Greece NOT with dizzying 'in love' brainless nationalism that makes me blind or in denial. I see her beauty, truth and flawed soul, and love her anyway. For that is what true love is all about.
