High Seas
At the time of writing we still have Seb and a member of KAWS has been in touch and is doing his best to find someone who will adopt him. Both English and German members have been emailed but so far no luck, now all we can do is wait and hope.
Without experiencing any storms or high winds on Wednesday the sea suddenly became incredibly rough. We were working at the house, still painting, and could hear the roar from the waves breaking along the seafront between Agios Nikolaos and Pantazi beach. When we finished painting we drove down to watch the sea, intending to drive back to our apartment through the village, but when we reached Pantazi the height of the waves amazed us. Around the beach area the waves seemed to come from both sides causing them to meet in the middle and produce huge breakers, which roared up the beach and across the coastal road. As the waves receded they left behind large rocks and sand which meant there was devastation all the way along the road into Agios Nikolaos. So much so that after about 100 metres we decided it was best to turn round and make our way back inland.
Everyone we have talked to has said that even the older residents can’t remember a sea causing as much damage as this. As well as local damage we were told that in Kalamata two boats were sunk in the harbour, and driving through two days later we noticed that a section of the harbour wall had been swept away.
The bathroom has been fitted downstairs. We have been to the DEH and OTE offices, the electricity company and the telephone company in Kalamata, so we feel we are on the homeward stretch. I am finding the painting increasingly more frustrating, with contractors in and out we are going over the same work again and again, and I think maybe I am losing the will to live.
We have finally made a decision on some furniture and have ordered the settees. My son is due with his girlfriend and daughter early June so the pressure is on us to find furniture we like, especially beds. We were lucky that Atlantic were able to find us the table and chairs we wanted so if all else fails we can improvise for awhile.
